Tomorrow’s Technology Helping People Today
Cancer Central is a charity that was set up by a cancer survivor in January 2018. Their mission is to help everyone affected by cancer, in providing an online service that enables them to easily find all the local relevant information they require; from support centres, to services, to custom products all offered by public, private and non-for-profit sectors.
The Challenge
Turning this idea into a reality meant approaching key industry leaders of innovative technology solution providers and creating a forum to work together, giving rise to the term COMINOVATION = community + innovation. The Data Company were one of the COMINOVATORS, providing vital support in terms of project management, analysis, design and build of this application and web based portal.
Key criteria of the website was quick implementation, ease of use and easy access. This meant the solution had to be scalable, flexible and work with future technologies such as artificial intelligence to ensure it was an all-round solution, not merely one that fills an existing gap in the market.
The Solution
InfoFINIUM was chosen as the key platform, as it provided the greatest flexibility and scalability required to complete phase one of this project; an application with underlying database and web based portal enabling both companies offering support, services and products to easily upload their details on this platform, as well as end users having the ability to find this information and make dedications.
As infoFINIUM is a product accelerator, different elements of the existing framework were readily configured to the detailed requirements of Cancer Central, thereby offering a phase one ‘go live’ date as early as September 2018.
Easy access meant intelligent access. One critical element of infoFINIUM was the seamless integration with artificial intelligence platforms such as IBM Watson. This AI bot was named AVE and, as part of phase 2, was rapidly deployed in October 2018. AVE offers more personally relevant information through conversational searches, rather than only searching based on key words. Users quickly find local information such as benefits advice, insurance products, counselling, complementary therapy, respite care, hats, wigs, lingerie, skincare, financial help, nutrition advice, local societies or communities, meals on wheels, books, blogs, forums, local hospital taxi services and so on.
